The Doctor is In...training

Today was the beginning of Paul's medical school career. He had his white coat ceremony and it is all becoming real. Paul's family came down to celebrate this momentous occasion with us and I could tell his dad was very proud of him.

It's official

Dr. and future Dr. Paul McGaha

This was the first step in a long journey we both have ahead of us. Tune in again to see how the journey progresses.

Back to School

Not only is Paul going back to school, but I will be too...sort of. I have changed my career path and will be working in an elementary school in Pearland, TX this fall as a speech therapist. I am so excited. One of my favorite things to do is crafts and decorate and I was pleased to find that I had a large room to decorate. Below are a few pictures of my new room. My school has a western theme this year.

I am very excited and nervous to begin school. I never did a school clinical rotation in graduate school so this will be my very first experience in the schools. I am sure I will have a lot to learn and probably will learn more than my students.

The Big Move!

A big thank you goes out to my mom (Kathy) and my two youngest brothers (Nick and Steven) for helping Paul and I make the big move from Fort Worth to Houston. We are happy to report that we all made it safely with only a few minor scratches on our furniture.

Paul and I and Dasher are so happy to not be living in an apartment again. We are living in a great little town home in a nice neighborhood right on the border of Friendswood, Pearland and Houston. We have so much room now we don't know what to do with it and Dasher still hasn't quite figured out the concept of a back yard.

While my mom and brothers were here we had a lot of fun.

Skim Boarding in the Gulf of Mexico

A trip to Minute Maid Park...we even got to see the train go when the Astros hit a home run and the Astros won!

Ferry ride to see some dolphins and we saw quite a few!

It was the most fun I had moving in a long time.

Introduction

Welcome to my blog. I am writing to inform family and friends of the exciting new happenings in our lives since beginning our life together (especially since we are now living farther away from our family).

Year One in a nutshell:
Paul and I have  been married for a little over a year now. After getting married on May 16, 2009, we moved to Fort Worth, TX. While in Fort Worth Paul continued to pursue his career in medicine by shadowing doctors and gaining some experience leading/instructing others while substitute teaching. I worked in a nursing home for Alzheimer's patients as a speech-language pathologist. The first year was a year for growing in all areas.

Paul continued to realize his dream of becoming a doctor and as he went on interviews to multiple medical schools he realized how close his dream was to becoming a reality. I quickly learned that while working in the nursing home was rewarding it was not as fulfilling as I had hoped.

Not only did we grow in our professions; we grew as a family. We adopted our first puppy ever (for me) shortly after Christmas.  Hence the name Dasher:

Dasher at 6 weeks.  He is a dachshund/heeler mix

Dasher has taught us many things. One being that caring for another life is not always easy or convenient, but he brings us a lot of joy and we can't imagine not having him.

We will always cherish our memories in Fort Worth and the friends we made there who helped us grow and learn during our first year of marriage. That is the reason for this blog. So that those who can not be with us can keep in touch and continue to share in our experiences.
